UPCOMING: Shirley Sherrod — “The Courage To Hope”

Speaking of Ta-Nehisi Coates and his piece on Obama, the name Shirley Sherrod comes up and he spends the last fifth of the article talking about her ordeal and its aftermath.  It also turns out that she’s got a new book coming out next week.  You’ll recall that Sherrod became a household name in 2010 when the National Media labeled her a reverse racist. She was accused of discriminating against white farmers and was forced to resign from her job in the US Department of Agriculture.  The charges were fabricated by the right-wing media (specifically, an operative of the late Andrew Breitbart) via some edited video footage that took her remarks completely out of context.

She’ll be in conversation with award-winning WBAI journalist Esther Armah on September 12 at the Schomburg Center in NYC.  The event is FREE and starts at 6:30pm.
