The BRC Performs Sly Stone’s “There’s A Riot Goin’ On” — 9/24

As is ever the case in NYC, there’s a lot goin’ on.  First, in Brooklyn, the BRC Orchestra will be performing Sly Stone’s “There’s A Riot Goin’ On” in full at an event hosted by Ebony’s Miles Marshall Lewis, who wrote the 33-1/3 paperback on the album.  Here’s the press release giving more info and context:

As political commentary on the hostile environment surrounding African-Americans in today’s society, and in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, the BRC Orchestra will perform Sly & The Family Stone’s dark, critical masterpiece “There’s A Riot Goin’ On” in its entirety on Saturday, September 24 at BAMcafe Live (Brooklyn Academy of Music) at 9PM. Writer, editor, author and critic Miles Marshall Lewis will host the event and contextualize Sly’s work based on his watershed book on the album for the “33 1/3” series. A guest from Black Lives Matter NYC chapter will also say a few words about the movement. Show time is 9PM SHARP!
