DC: Shaolin Jazz’s “Can I Kick It?” Martial Arts & Hip Hop Film Series

Some of you may remember in 2011, we were honored to have DJ 2Tone Jones join us at the NBI Festival for a talk on the inspiration behind the Shaolin Jazz Project, a mashup project he created that year with marketing exec Gerald Watson that pairs the classic Wu-Tang Clan album Enter the Wu-Tang: 36th Chambers with classic jazz.

Since then, the Shaolin Jazz project has spawned several popular extensions including an apparel line, a lecture series, and a film series, Can I Kick It?  The summer 2017 edition of the film series kicks off in June.  Every Tuesday, attendees will be treated to a classic martial arts film with a special soundtrack created live and on the spot by Jones, who will mix hip hop, soul, funk and rock in real time.  Check out the video above to get a better sense of the series.
