The BRC begins its June/Black Music Month Friday series tonight at Symphony Space. There series is "Maximum Rock ‘n’ Roll" and it explores the roots of rock music. The lineups are as follows:

Opening day at Harlem School of the Arts presents a tribute to the
great composer/musician/spiritual guru, Alice Coltrane. UA
Festival features the pop-rock soulful ambience of Res; the socially
incisive post rock of the Exit; the experimental violin/laptop
shenanigans of Jahlili Rawkstraw; the soul laced protorock melodicism
of Tenderhead; the soulful tobacco-road paved electronica of Shanti Om;
and the cosmic big band explorations of the MuthaWit Orchestra. Video
projections by Tim Fielder and oscar-winning animation director of the
Matrix series, Lyndon Barrois.
