Posting this at the recommendation of @Stevewnyc who, in a comment to my Badu post, suggested that we look at this video as another example of how art can challenge societal conventions just by taking over spaces that are considered public.
If you look at this video, Matt and Kim's, or the work of Spencer Tunick, it's clear that there are other artists who have been exploring this. It doesn't mean that we immediately pass a judgement on Erykah's video, but it does certainly suggest that it needs to be viewed within a larger context. Then, you can start to have substantive discussions about its quality, its originality or if it even qualifies as "art".
