Just getting through an initial pass of The Barfly Theory, the recent release by Sonnyboy (nee Shel Riser). First impressions: Solid, soulful funk rock. Comparisons, at least visually, to Maxwell back in the day are unavoidable, but where Maxwell always seemed to be in seduction mode, Shel leads with high energy, rock edginess.
