As you know, Pharoahe Monch will kick off Weeksville’s Garden Party series this Saturday. In preparation for the interview I conducted with him earlier today, I’ve been listening to his recently released album W.A.R. (We Are Renegades).
The album is full of sharp lyrics and bangers for days. Case in point: This song, in which Monch rails against corruption and media-induced groupthink, is really a call to arms for critical thinking. What we face these days, he asserts, “is a war against consciousness.” Indeed.
Of course, it’s a nice bonus to have Living Colour’s Vernon Reid blazing your track out. Take a listen.
