It’s hard to believe that I met Marcus Machado eight years ago. Back then, he was a young sideman for The Family Stand when they played an early Bold As Love event, aptly called BoldasLIVE. It was “Inside the Actors Studio” meets MTV Unplugged for black rock. You could tell he was talented then. After all, not only was he onstage with Peter Lord, Sandra St. Victor and V. Jeffrey Smith, but he was holding his own (and standing out!) in a band that included Leslie Lemon on bass and Ronny Drayton also on guitar duties.
Fast forward, and Marcus recently released his first EP, titled 29, which features the likes of Sandra St. Victor and DJ Spinna. Clearly, he’s been busy honing his craft and catching the attention of the industry. In fact, he won the coveted Rolling Stone Magazine’s Next Young Guns contest in 2014. Check out the video that accompanied that write-up:
Here’s the track with St. Victor. Funky, groovy and thought-provoking, as ever.
Here’s the album cover so you know what to look for over on iTunes.
