Easily disproving the idea that Friday the 13th is a bad day.
BLK JKS, that exciting quartet from South Africa, rolled through Brooklyn last night.
It was just cool to watch four Africans do "rock", very much a Western form, but filtering it through their own cultural lens. What comes out is a propulsive rock meets Afro-beat jazzy melange that had the crowd that packed into the small-ish room downstairs at Brooklyn's Union Hall nodding and moving, even if they had to do it in place.
As you're reading this, you still might have time to catch them in Chinatown at Santos Party House tonight. Any of you heading to Austin for SXSW will have a couple of chances to see them there, as well.
The group recently released a remastered "Mystery" EP and, according to manager Knox Robinson, their full-length album will be out in August, so keep an eye out.
