Good stuff last night! Thanks to all of you who joined us for the second WRFB broadcast.
Given the recent passing of icon Lena Horne, I thought it was only fitting to kick things off with something from her. I then moved into another legendary diva, Ms. Betty Davis. And just so you understand that everything isn’t going to be straight ahead grooves, I put together a 3-song arc of slightly more abstract songs, work from Tyondai Braxton, Flying Lotus and bringing things back around with an ethereal tune from St. Louis-based Tenderhead aka Shena Verrett.
Jumped over to ATL to hear from theDOLLDAZE then to another legend, the late, great qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. And lest anyone think I forgot the rock during the hour, I had Brooklyn’s Game Rebellion, London’s Sabatta and Connecticut faves The Smyrk hold it down. I closed out my set with fellow WRFB host Shelley Nicole, just so folks could be crystal clear that she can bring it, not just on the air, but also onstage.
Anyway, here’s the playlist (song/artist/album):
