One of the films screening next week at the BlackStar Film Festival is Steve Zegans’ Res Documentary. You might even call it a work in progress, as what’s being screened is only 15 minutes. According to the description
Following Res from 2010 to present the “Res Documentary” gives us a performance filled, up close look at the highs and lows of being an independent recording artist after being signed to a major label.
There’s of course a snippet of an interview with Talib Kweli and I found what he said about Res very moving: “People don’t understand how dope Res is. . .And I was such a fan of Res. . . I just wanted more people to be fans.” Thus was born Idle Warship. Now, that’s a friend and someone who believes in you!
The Res Documentary preview is on Saturday, August 4 at 7PM, and there will be a Q&A with the director immediately following.
